In Australia, workers involved in construction work must complete general construction induction training (commonly known as the “White Card”) before commencing work on a construction site.

This Western Australian course reflects the state’s work health and safety legislation and WorkSafe WA guidance, helping students develop practical safety knowledge relevant to construction work across WA.

The unit provides the knowledge and skills required to work safely and prevent injury or harm to themselves and others. It covers identifying and orally reporting common construction hazards, understanding basic risk controls, responding to potential incidents and emergencies, and correctly selecting and fitting common personal protective equipment (PPE).

This training does not replace site-specific or task-specific instruction, training or supervision. Workers are expected to complete a site-specific induction before commencing construction work on a job site.

Course Delivery

This course can be delivered/assessed in the workplace or at facility organised by the training provider.

Course Durations

Course durations can vary for multiple reasons, so the durations below are the minimum possible amount.

Face-to-Face face-to-face contact time of at least 6 Hours

An individual undertaking this course with Allens Training Pty Ltd will need to demonstrate the following to be eligible for entry:

  • Be at least 14 years of age.
  • Western Australian evidence of identity and location requirements:
    • The student must be physically located in Western Australia when the assessment is completed. Western Australian residency is not required.
    • The student must present original evidence showing that they are located in Western Australia. Accepted evidence is listed in the WA Evidence of Identity Requirements document.
    • If the selected evidence does not include the student’s photograph, a separate current photo identification document showing their full name and photograph must also be sighted.
    • If the student cannot provide suitable photo identification, the trainer must contact the Allens Training White Card Department before training commences. Alternative evidence must not be accepted unless approved by Allens Training.
    • The name shown on the identification must match the student’s enrolment details.
    • The student must provide a Western Australian postal address for delivery of the Construction Induction Training card.
    • The trainer must complete the Type of Identity Documents Sighted checklist before the assessment is completed.
  • Have the physical capacity to correctly fit and remove the required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • To successfully complete this course, students will need to demonstrate the following language, literacy, numeracy and digital (LLND) skills during training and assessment:
    • Learning: Follow instructions and ask questions to make sure I understand safety procedures
    • Reading: Read short safety signs, labels, and simple written information about workplace hazards.
    • Writing: Fill out basic forms and write simple information.
    • Oral communication: Listen to information about safety and speak clearly to share ideas or ask for help.
    • Numeracy: Understand simple numbers and measurements used in safety information.
    • Digital Literacy: Able to use a mobile phone or basic device to read messages, follow online instructions, complete online forms or access learning resources

This course MUST be delivered in Western Australia only. Students undertaking this course must be a resident of the state in which the course is being undertaken.

Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written, oral, and practical assessment tasks.

Documentation – The student must complete all documentation according to the required standard:

  • Form – Take 5 Hazard Identification Form

Theory assessment

  • A written assessment consisting of multiple-choice questions 


Students are required to complete a self evaluation against the following core skills as part of the enrolment process. This will allow your trainer to understand any additional support that may be required during the course delivery and assessment.
